Please find the main difference below:

IFX007T is qualified according to industry standard, and the parameters are specified at 24V.
BTN8982TA is an automotive qualified device, and the parameters are specified from 8 - 18V.
Therefore BTN8982TA can be used for automotive applications, and IFX007T can be used for industrial applications or the applications which don't require automotive qualification.

The datasheet states a voltage range of 8-40V for the IFX007T, not only up to 24V as you said above.

Is this an error in the datasheet?

40V is the max. rating of Vs. It is not the normal operation voltage.
If you look into the parameters, you will find they are specify under the condition VS = 24V. For other VS voltage, the parameters could drift.

If you have further question, please don't hesitate to ask.

Merry Christmas and happy new year:)
