Dear Infineon,

by reading the latest errata sheet for the new XMC4700 series, I discovered an entry regarding the
USIC parity mode.
I know this bug from our old XMC4500 micros.
Infineon fixed this bug in new steppings of the XMC4400 series, but not in the 4500er.

When we started our new project we asked Infineon about this bug in future micros and we got the feedback
that it will not be in the upcoming 4700er.
This project need to have two independant Modbus RTU interfaces, so we need to have parity mode.

Does the design of the XMC4700 really base on the old XMC4500 steppings and not on new ones?

Or is it just a copy-paste-error from an errata sheet of the XMC4500 series?

I really need reliable feedback on this issue, because this bug would stop our whole development.

Hello Michael,

Sorry that this is causing much trouble for you.
I am quite sure that this is a copy and paste error as you mentioned.

For example, I did a quick check on the USIC TBUF01 bug (erratum USIC_AI.011) with an XMC4700 board, this transmit buffer input location is working fine, unlike in XMC4500.

I am not able to find the XMC4700 errata sheet from the list of documents on the product webpage.

Did you downloadet from there?
If so, I am wondering if it has been taken down to fix the mistake.

Dear Min Wei,

thank you for your feedback.

The link, where I downloaded the errata, was: http://www.infineon.com/dgdl/Infineon-ErrataSheet_XMC4700_XMC4800_AA-ES-v01_00-EN.pdf?fileId=5546d46...
I have it open in my browser and the link is still valid.

What really would help me is a statement without "quite sure" 🙂

I also addressed this issue to our German FAE, but he's at the embedded world at the moment.

Hi Min Wei,

can you give me any feedback on this issue?
I stopped our development because of this possible issue and that creates a lot of trouble...

Thanks for any feedback.

Michael

Hello Michael,

I am afraid I still have no official confirmation on the topic.

Hello Michael,

I have gotten the official word that there are indeed errors with regards to the USIC errata list.

Only the following 5 USIC errata are valid for XMC4700/4800 devices:
1) USIC_AI.008: SSC delay compensation feature cannot be used
2) USIC_AI.014: No serial transfer possible while running capture mode timer
3) USIC_AI.017: Clock phase of data shift in SSC slave cannot be changed
4) USIC_AI.018: Clearing PSR.MSLS bit immediately deasserts the SELOx output signal
5) USIC_AI.020: Handling unused DOUT lines in multi-IO SSC mode
All the rest are not applicable including the one regarding parity mode.

A new errata sheet version to replace the erroneous one is currently in preparation and will be issued very soon.
Sorry for the trouble caused and thank you for your kind understanding.
