I'm a maintenance man with a reasonable basic understanding of diode and transistor operation, but I'm sure not an engineer. My question is, concerning SCR's (maybe thyristors is the more correct term) such as Infineon model no. TT104N14KOF, what are the functions of gates/connections 5 and 7? I understand 4 and 6, but unless 5 and 7 are required to complete a circuit, I don't get it. Any help out there? Sure would appreciate it.

The auxilary pins 5&7 are used as control leads. Please find pin HK in attached picture. I hope this helps.
