    What is the root cause of the dV/dT limitation in motor drives?

    High dv/dt leads to an uneven voltage distribution along the windings resulting in partial discharge in the insulation. This high voltage discharge destroys the insulation over time and must be prevented. For this reason dvdt Limits were defined from NEMA MG1 Part 31 and IEC 60034 and are below 10V/ns.
    Nevertheless Wide Bandgap devices like SiC could be switched faster with the need of new motor designs were one lever could be removing long cables causing reflections.
