Hello AnniLe,
FBSOA (forward bias safety operating area) is the safety operating area which is a definition of the voltage and current conditions over which the device can be operated without damage. FBSOA is limited by the maximum collector-emitter voltage, the maximum collector current, the pulse width and the power dissipation (PD) denoted in the datasheet.
Meanwhile, RBSOA(reverse bias safety operating area) is the safety operating area only applied to the turn-off instant. It's because the power dissipation exceeds FBSOA at the turn off instant in inductor load condition. Therefore, RBSOA is not limited by PD and not related to pulse width unlike FBSOA.
In case of Infineon’s IGBT datasheet, only FBSOA for the conditions “D=0, TC=25°C, Tvj≤175°C, VGE=15V, tp=1µs” is presented that covers RBSOA as well because IGBT turns off within 1usec in most case.
