Maybe a question for the real experts in this community:
I read in an app note that the emitter lead has to be as short as possible . Why is it ?

Hello,

For an IGBT with a typical package, e.g. standard TO-247, the shorted emitter lead is, the smaller common emitter inductance will result and its negative impact in the IGBT performance.

That is why packages with Kelvin emitter pin/lead are available, to reduce the influence of this common emitter inductance.

Please refer to the following thread where this issue is discussed as well: for https://www.infineonforums.com/threads/11040-Kelvin-emitter

Thank you
