An IPM, which is short for Intelligent Power Module, is a highly integrated, compact module that includes a power inverter (IGBT or MOSFET), gate driver IC, and protection features all within one package. There are multiple configurations to choose from like Half-bridge, H-bridge, and the most common: 3-phase inverter.

The IPM portfolio can power applications from 20 W all the way up to 4 kW so the field of application varies. Typically IPMs are perfect for home appliances, fans, pumps, and general purpose or industrial drives. If you need a power inverter within the specified power range, then more than likely an IPM will work and will also simplify your system design since gate driver and protection features are already integrated.

The IPM product portfolio is split into multiple product families based on power range and the package size, with CIPOS™ Nano being the most compact package and targeting lower power applications to CIPOS™ Maxi which is rated for 1200 V. I would recommend looking on the IPM webage or at the product selection guide to get a better idea of the products available.
