Hello all,

Is it normal for the IN pin on BTS6143D to output the source voltage? Power supply: 12V. With no other pins connected, the IN pin outputs 12V. The IN pin is supposed to be shorted to GND in order to activate the OUTPUT pins. What am I missing here?

Hello,
Thank you for posting on Infineon Community.

Whenever the device is commanded ON by pulling the pin IN to ground, a positive current +IL is flowing from the pin VBB through the power stage out of the output pin OUT towards the load RLoad. This operation condition is the normal operation condition of the device. And at this time only output pins gives voltage.
The problem that you are facing might be because of some connection error, the IN pin is having supply from some source or due to leakage current.
Kindly send the schematic with OUT Pin output for the better understanding.

Just a few additional details. The output pins give around 11.4V when the IN pin is not connected to the GND. When I connect the IN pin to the GND, the output pins give around 12V.

Yes, the Pins has a pull-up to the supply and must be pulled low to switch on.
A little inconvenient, it needs a transistor level shifter or an ULN2003 if there are more channels, a Micro pin won't do.
